A Mothers Day Table Setting, what could be a nicer way of treating Mom than to give her a special lunch or dinner. While flowery and sweet designs are nice if your mother has a bit more sophisticated tastes then she might want something rather more elegant a little less frilly.
This is a simple but elegant tablescape that was designed around the purple grape hyacinths that grow rampant through my garden in the spring. (These flowers were actually cut from my front lawn where they had escaped the confines of the garden.)
With touches of blue/purple and gold this tablescape has a regal feel to it.
If using grape hyacinths you will have to clean them of their leaves and cut the ends. This is simple and fast to do.
Just separate the flowers from the leaves and cut each bloom with a sharp knife before putting them in water.
This little flowers have a lovely delicate scent and will last for a week in water.
This little table arrangement was made by gathering about 10 stems of grape hyacinths in a bunch and securing them with tiny hair elastics.
Depending on the size of the small vase you are using you will need 4 or 5 bunches
Set just to the side of each plate these small arrangements mean you don't need a large centerpiece.
The small spray of flowers on the plate was made with 3 grape hyacinths tied with a bow.
Make the bow first and tie a longer piece of ribbon to it. Tie the completed ribbon and bow to the three flowers. Trim the flowers and ribbons ends.
You can set this spray on the plate a few hours before your meal as long as it is not in full sun and the flowers will look fresh.
The card for the place setting picks up the colors of the flowers. Cut a piece of purple card stock into quarters and fold in half horizontally.
On white paper or card stock print each guests made and cut to about 1/4 inch small on all sides than the purple place card. Glue the white card stock to the purple car.
The tablecloth was a piece of curtain lace fabric that I had bought. I placed it right on top of the dark wood table.
I used vintage white napkins and my best dishware with a gold colored charger underneath and crystal stemware.
Using the purples, blues and golds this tablescape remained feminine but was not too fussy so it was a perfect Mothers Day Table Setting.
