So many of us have grown up with TV, it was there to baby sit us as children, amuse us as teens and relax us as adults. A constant stream of information and entertainment that we take for granted that almost every household has access to.

Many people will be willing to give up almost everything else before they give up their televisions.

budget money
Everyone has heard that supposedly at certain times of the year you can get better bargains on goods than at other times.

When you read up on it on line and in magazines they give you convenient charts of when everything is going on sale but then when you go off to the stores when these list suggest you're not finding the deals that are suppose to be there.

So when are the sales on the the "good stuff"?  Is there a best time to buy anything?

Well some of it is common sense, some of it is finding better places to shop and some of it really is trade secrets.

Marking Your Stuff - Saving Money by Only Buying it Once

Marking Your Stuff
Even the most frugal of us has things, stuff. We spend a lot of time and sometimes a lot of money getting the stuff we need so to make sure that it doesn't disappear on us we really should mark it.

Most of the time we loose things because some one walks off with your hammer because it looks just like theirs or you ask one of the family members to pack up from the family reunion and they take your cousins beat up cooler instead of yours and you don't notice until it is too late.

Marking our things makes sure that when you lend out a book or a CD you have a greater chance of getting it back instead of it disappearing into someone else's house hold and then ending up in their garage sale next spring.

There is this image that living the life of luxury means lounging around all day doing nothing as people do your bidding, but real luxury isn't about wasting your life, it's about enjoying all the small details of your life.

You can own a luxury car but if it is coated with dirt and filled with used tissues and discarded coffee cups you won't feel very luxurious when you are in it. On the other hand you can own a modest car in a favorite color that you keep sparkling clean and in excellent condition that you feel great driving. Add some details like tossing on a pair of driving gloves, some stylish driving sunglasses and a fun location to drive to and you will get that luxury feeling.

You can live a life of luxury on a budget by getting rid of money sucking distractions, some careful spending and some organization.

the_iron_fan_of_light-t2.jpgI have learned the hard way over the years that you have to have your go-to guys in place well before you actually need them. (Even though I say go-to guy I probably should say go-to person as  a lot of them are women).

Plumbing pipe bursts in the middle of the night? Car starts making a really weird sound? What is that funny looking lump on your ankle? You need to know where you can go for help, advice and answers that won't cost you an arm and a leg and that is 100 percent reliable at a fair price.     Photo by Photos8.com

The French have a saying that,  "It is impossible to overdo luxury" (which was probably said by someone with either an unlimited bank account or a great deal of debt). I have never been in the position that I could overdo the luxuries in my life but I thoroughly enjoy the luxuries I have.

Luxuries help make life feel so much better when you are going through tough times or when you just need to pamper yourself. As I wrote in 25 Inexpensive Ideas to give Your Life Luxury, no matter how tight money is there are many little things you can do to give your life a bit of luxury. Here are 25 more inexpensive ideas.

White house with picket fence
When times are a little tight it is always great to make some extra money, but what if you don't have the time for a second job ( or you already have one) and you don't want to go all out to start up a small business?

If you are in your own home you might have the answer around you. While some of these suggestions are simple and will take up almost no time others you will have to put some effort into.

Will they make you rich? No, but they can bring in some extra cash that can make a huge difference to you if you are in a tight spot or are saving up for something special. Make sure that you follow all local laws when pursuing any of these ideas.

Clothes on sale
Every savvy bargain hunter knows that when you see a great deal you have to pounce and pounce quickly.  Toilet paper at 50% off ? grab as many rolls as you can, frozen food at an incredible discount? now is time to stock the freezer, Halloween decorations at 75% off? you'll have the greatest looking house on the block this October.

But when have you crossed the line from stocking up to just buying for the sake of buying? Have you stopped being a smart consumer and are you using the idea of stocking up to justify your spending? Are you just being a greedy shopper?

Here are seven questions you should be asking yourself.

Budgeting in the Garden

Flowers in garden
The gardening magazines that are sprouting up in the grocery stores all have covers of gorgeous flower beds, stunning garden furniture and ornaments.

Mentally I look at the pictures and do the math in my head, even their budget gardens cost thousands.

Unless you are living in a tropical or semi tropical area, plants can be very pricey and so are decorative containers, store bought compost, garden soil, retaining walls, stone pathways, gazebos, and garden ornaments.

It is a romantic notion to think that you can have a lovely garden without spending money on it and  that nature will take care of itself. Like everything else in life if you want something to look nice you have to put  time, effort and some cash into it. You can have a gorgeous garden, but not over night. There are things that you can scrimp on and things that you can save on and things you need to spend money on. You need to know the difference to get the best from your garden with the least cost.

Inventory of silver
You probably have a lot of stuff in your house.

Some good stuff and some not so good stuff and some stuff that you need to get rid of. But do you have any idea of exactly how much stuff you own?

It has been estimated that the average North American household has over 10,000 items in it.... and may be more. (While that number might overwhelm you remember that they would be counting every spoon in your cutlery drawer, every photo in your photo albums and every Lego brick your child owns).

It is a vital to have a home inventory on many levels no matter what you financial situation is or how much you own. It is imperative to know what you own for insurance purposes, in case you need to move and for personal reasons. A household inventory will  give you a very clear picture of what you have spent your money on in the past, what you value and what you can get rid of. It can also make you face any uncomfortable buying habits you continue to make (does anyone really need 62 pairs of socks?)

Mansion with flowers
We all want to live the good life and it's annoying how money can just slip through our fingers day after day.

While you don't mind being frugal and thrifty and in some instances down right cheap, you do want to enjoy life! You know the drill, you have a budget and you stick to it, you only shop for what you need and you are the master (mistress?) of buying on sale.

But what about the fun stuff?

You don't have to totally deprive yourself to save money, you just have to get the real value of what you pay for. Plug up those little money leaks and spend the cash on things that you really enjoy. There is no hard ship to this, just some thought and planning. Here is my top 50 tips for living better for less money.
