Who hasn't heard of someone that always seems to be traveling and living life full of foreign adventures.

How do they do it?

You might think that you just couldn't live this life style because you don't have the cash needed but many adventurers are doing it on a shoe string and are having the time of their lives.

Surprisingly it can be very cheap to travel the world, you just need to know what the secret is.
When you start reading the travel journals of people that have spent years traveling the one thing that comes up over and over again is that they managed to stay in places for free where they were visiting.

Unless you have a huge family that is spread world wide you are going to have to find alternatives.  There is a way for you to stay in amazing homes for free. Helpx.net and workaway.info are two sites that help you find places around the world that are looking for helpers for room and board.

Generally they ask you to work a few hours a day and you will live in their homes, business or estates.

Petting a kangaroo
There is a listing of countries and people will post what sort of helpers they are looking for.

You might find a co-op in Venice that needs someone with computer skills and can help them with their English.

You can find listings in Australia for people that need someone to help with their organic farm.

On  Workaway there are over 100 countries listed that have numerous opportunities.

Street in Zurich
To be clear you will be working for a few hours everyday but the chance to explore and travel on your time off is immeasurable. As safety is always everyone first concern you have an opportunity to contact your prospective host and remember that you will be in their homes so they want to know as much as they can about you as well.

You will have to arrange your own travel plans and visas (if necessary).

This is not just an opportunity for those that are young and without family responsibilities as there are many hosts that welcome families.

House front in Zurich
Another option for free accommodation is becoming a caretaker for someones home. It might be living in a summer property in the off season or looking after an estate as the homeowners travel.

The Caretaker Gazette has been published since 1983 and lists clients that are looking for house sitters.

Positions on estates, mansions, farms, ranches, resort homes, retreat centers,
Modern house
camps, hunting and fishing lodges, vacation homes, private islands, and any other kind of property imaginable are listed in the gazette.

While there is a fee for the Gazette that is sent bi-monthly with e-mail updates it is a well respected bricks and mortar business.

Thinking outside the box can give you travel opportunities that you might not otherwise be able to afford.

This won't be the usual type of vacation that you take but it could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
