Re-Covering Spiral Notebooks - Tips & Hints

Recovering notebooks is such an easy way to make spiral notebooks more attractive (and unique) for just a few pennies. I first saw this idea at Pittypat Paperie and thought it was so clever. With school supplies in stores at rock bottom prices I picked up a few extra spiral notebooks to use but having them on my desk looked sloppy.

It is surprisingly easy to remove the spiral and add a front cover of your own choice. I chose to put a blue cover on my spiral notebook so it would match the rest of the blue items on my desk but the sky is the limit with your choices.
I used card stock for my new cover and after pulling back the top and bottom wires of the spiral on the notebook I carefully unwound the metal spiral and then removed the old cover. I used the cover as a pattern to cut the card stock to size and using a small hole punch I punched new holes into the card stock. I then placed the new cover on the pages of the notebook and re wound the spiral back through the holes and pushed the top and bottom back into place. Easy peasy.

While the card stock was thick enough to make as a cover you could also use a glossy paper and glue that onto the removed cover, re make the holes and replace the covered cover.

The beer cover here was taken from a flyer that had a interesting graphic.

You could do the same with magazine pages if they are large enough and use images to make it a one of a kind notebook.
