Great Clothes in the Wrong Size

Clearance TagsOne of the biggest secrets in the fashion industry (and among very savvy fashionista shoppers) is... the sizes on clothes don't really matter.

Gasp you say, but I have always been a perfect size 000 what do you mean the sizes don't matter!

In an age where a woman's dress size seems to matter more than her IQ it is a well know fact in the fashion industry that almost no woman is willing to go up a size or two (or four) to get the correct fit. We all know of women that if they found the perfect dress, in the perfect colour and fit would refuse to buy it if the label showed 4 sizes larger than she usually wore. (You can almost hear them shriek...I'm NOT a size....).

For women that care more about fit than size numbers this secret is a huge money saver. These women are the ones that know that even if they are a size 10 they have no qualms about strolling over to the size 16 clearance rack to see if there is anything there that will fit them.

Natural Beauty for Nails

Naturally groomed nailsWhile two inch blood red nails might be the standard of chic for some women for others they are neither possible, practical or even wanted.

For women who use their hands to take care of their horses, gardens, babies or to play piano, the long finger nail look is never going to happen.

Totally neglecting your nails shouldn't be an option either because now, as in ancient times, your nails are one of the things that people judge you on to guess your social and financial status.

Then as in now your nails can show if you have the time and money to look after them.  Well tended nails are a finishing touch to how you look and natural nails can look elegant and sophisticated at a fraction of the cost that nail salons charge for latest nail trends.

Best Toys For Children

Toys cat dog mouseToys can be magical.

Everyone remembers a favourite toy from their childhood and we want to pass on the hours of joy we got from them to the children in our lives. Through toys babies learn to manipulate objects and practice their motor skills, toddlers learn social skills when sharing their toys with others and children expand their imaginations.

What on one hand is a simple play thing on the other hand is a tool to help a child's development. But most of all toys should be fun. With a toy a child can get pulled into a world of make believe and imagination that is more wonderful than anything they will ever see on TV.

So how on earth have toys become the family statue symbol?
JaguarDealing with money should be simple.

You earn money, you spend money, you earn more money. Like children given a few dollars and happily spending them at a candy store we think our lives should follow this simple pattern. Except there is all this extra stuff happening with money that no one tells us about until they spring it on us with our first pay check.

One minute your happily munching away on jujubes and sour candies and the next minute your looking at taxes and all the other bits and pieces that the government takes away from us. Ok.... we're left with a little less than we thought we would get.

Rent, food, insurance, payments... when do we get to get the fun stuff?

Coffee pot with dog collarCold coffee. If you are reading this in an emergency I will get straight to the point.

Brew a large batch of coffee using double the amount of coffee grounds. Pour in a bucket and mix it with cold water (or ice cubes) to make it room temperature or colder but try not to over dilute.

Do NOT pour hot coffee over your pet, the coffee must be room temperature or colder.

Try to find exactly where on your pet they have been sprayed and concentrate on this area. The coffee must soak into their fur and stay on their fur for at least 10 minutes. Wash out with a deodorant soap.

Several years ago I came home late one night and as I always did I let Sam the dog out into the backyard before going to bed. I remember opening the back kitchen door and Sam leaping into the darkness and then a flash of fur and growling. There was suddenly a sickening sensation of burning ammonia all over my face. Sam had jumped a skunk and the frightened animal had spayed the dog, me and the kitchen.

Filling cupcake with jelly beansThis makes a very fluffy cake or cupcakes.

I do believe this recipe is from an older version of the Joy of Cooking but  I can only seem to find this version on-line made with shortening which I have never tried.

I used this recipe to make my Easter Basket Cupcakes   which are shown here.
